On Monday, June 16, 2025, students from St. Mugagga Secondary School in Muhangi, Kibaale District, embarked on an educational visit to Buseesa Demonstration Farm. Located in Buseesa Trading Centre (Kasalaba), Matale Sub County, Kibaale District, the farm served as an ideal platform for the students to gain hands-on experience in modern agricultural practices.
Led by their agriculture teachers, the students were taken through various projects at the farm, including poultry, piggery, goat rearing, rabbit farming, dairy farming, urban farming, Fish farming, indigenous trees, coffee, bee keeping, nursery beds, pasture gardens and legumes, Hass avocado growing, and banana farming. The tour was facilitated by the Busesa Community Development Organization (BCDO) team, comprising Executive Director Dr. Lubega Richard, Administrator Mr. Tugonzaruhanga Joseph, and farm technicians.

The students were thrilled to learn about BCDO’s initiative to empower communities with knowledge and skills in different agriculture projects. They expressed confidence that the experience would enable them to excel in this year’s UNEB examinations. As secondary schools struggle to implement the new curriculum, BCDO’s commitment to bridging the skills gap among youth in the Bunyoro region and Uganda is commendable.

The visit demonstrates the importance of practical learning in enhancing students’ understanding of agricultural concepts. By engaging with modern farming practices, the students of St. Mugagga Secondary School are better equipped to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. BCDO’s efforts to promote experiential learning are a significant step towards developing a skilled and knowledgeable generation of farmers and agricultural professionals.
